HAPPINESS. PRAYER. DANCE...

SUJATHA SURESH

- "The purity of dance cannot be expressed in any form, other than through dance itself. It testifies the union of the soul and body. Nothing earthly transcends this union."

According to ancient Indian scriptures, the Guru (Sanskrit for Teacher) or the one who imparts knowledge, is placed with godlike reverence.

Indian Classical dance artiste Sujatha Suresh is a product of St. Francis College, Secunderabad. Having received ‘A’ graded accreditation, as an artist, with the Indian television network Doordarshan, Hyderabad, Sujatha has successfully translated her fondness for art to dedicating her life to showcase Indian dance forms through the world.

Sujatha, an All India Gold Medalist (in the years 1982 &1983), has performed in over 350 stages until now, including various Indian associations, cultural festivals, child-care societies, The Alliance française and South Asian Association at Hamilton, Ontario. A trainer and mentor to children in the Middle East for almost two decades, she now sees her students conducting dance classes and spreading the message of art awareness across continents. Deeply committed to the world of art, she continues her intense pursuit for knowledge in the field of classical dance forms.

Sujatha works as a teacher in Halton School Board and Cultural Secretary to South Asian Association, Hamilton, Ontario. Her Swaramudra Dance Academy conducts dance classes in Hamilton, Burlington and Mississauga.

TRIBUTE TO GURUS

She pays her laudatory tributes to Late Guru Chandrasekharan, a former professor at Vishwabharati

University (Shantiniketan), Kolkata, India, for her initial tutelage at Trivandum. She continued her dance

training under Guru V S Ramamurthi and Manjula Ramaswami of Shri Rama Nataka Niketan, Hyderabad.

Guru Ramamurthi is popularly known as 'Sivakami Ramamurthi', commemorating his unforgettable

rendition of protagonist ‘Sivakami’ in 'Sivakamiyin Shapatham', by Kalki. Sujatha went on to learn the

popular dance form of Kerala – ‘Mohiniyattam’ - from Kalamandalam Sumathi.
